HARWICH ANGLING CLUB IS SITUATED IN THE NORTH EASTERN CORNER OF ESSEX

We have the fishing rights on a 3.5 acre mixed fishery farm reservoir in the village of Bradfield.

The reservoir is used for irrigation on the farm and the club does not have any control over the amount of water extracted,

A decision was taken at the AGM to extend the Youth Membership from 12 to 16 year olds to 12 up to 19 years of age.

BRADFIELD LAKE WORK PARTY

A Work Party will take place at the lake on Saturday 14th September, meet in the car park at 09.00. Bring tools and a wheelbarrow if you have one. If the weather is bad the work party will be on Saturday 21st September.

BRADFIELD LAKE IMPORTANT

Due to the low water levels at lake and in the interest of fish welfare the committee request that members do not use keep nets.

Please be careful if you move off the bank on to the lake bed to nearer to the water, as the the surface may appear to be hard, but is soft under the thin crust.

DOCK RIVER

It is with regret that The Committee have come to the conclusion the Dock River is no longer viable as a club water. The committee and some members have spent a considerable amount of time and effort over the last few years trying to keep the C & B pegs clear of weed and fishable. The Environment Agency took Dock River off of their maintenance schedule about 5 years ago, this has allowed the weed to grow unchecked. Downstream of the “willows” the river is totally blocked all the way to the first A120 bridge, this has restricted the flow and consequently our section has silted up and is now only about 18” deep. The Riparian land owners have by law a duty to keep their bank to the mid-point of the river clear of weed so the water flows and the fish can move throughout the river, this does not seem to have been enforced by the EA.
There was a massive fish kill in the summer of 2017, the EA did put some aerators in the river as the dissolved oxygen levels were very low. When the oxygen levels recovered the EA put 3000 small fish into the river. However, 2 committee members have been fishing the river all autumn and winter, both for silver fish and pike without a single bite. The EA have carried out an electro fishing survey and only found 2 small fish. The club chairman has sent a detailed letter to the EA expressing the clubs concern about the current state of the river, the reply he received basically comes to the conclusion that the river is no longer a viable fishery.
The chairman and the secretary are continuing to have discussions with the EA, they have offered the possibility of fishing a section of another river.

NEW GATE AND CAR PARK AT BRADFIELD LAKE

The farmer has installed a gate and made a hard standing car park. Please only park on the hard standing, the grass areas are very soft.
